History of the
Tyngwndwn Prefix and how the stud began
We are a small stud
specialising in Welsh Ponies of Cob type, but you will also find
the other three sections at Tyngwndwn.
The family have been involved in breeding Welsh cobs since 1918
and the present bloodlines are direct descendants of the
foundation stock, our aim is to keep to the same type with good
confirmation action and excellent temperament,
The Tyngwndwn prefix was formed back in 1939 when my
grandparents returned from London after the war, and was used by
my father Geraint Jones until he married my mother Mary Jones in
1961, they decided to use the Nebo prefix which my mother was
already using, so the Tyngwndwn prefix did not have an use until
1976 when my parents gave my brother and I a chance to choose a
filly foal each to refound the Tyngwndwn stud, my decision was a
section C filly Tyngwndwn Siani Felen, and this was the
beginning of the present day section C’s at the Tyngwndwn Stud,
up until 1992 when Huw and I got married, my brother Owen and I
shared the Tyngwndwn prefix, and also both of us had much
involvement with the Nebo prefix so when I got married we all
decided that it would be best for Owen to share the Nebo prefix
with my parents and Huw and I would use the Tyngwndwn prefix and
of course by now our two daughters Catrin and Lowri also use
Tyngwndwn, I hope this has given you and idea of the Nebo and
Tyngwndwn connection, and both stud’s run on a very similar
breeding policy.

NEBO SHANI

1970-1999
Sire; Revel Tic Tac 6557 - Dam; 15986 Excelsior Siani
Shani
was bought as a foal from my mother’s cousin who only kept the
one mare, On my parent’s visit to see the mare and her three-day
old foal, her pretty head, two bold eyes and hind quarters that
carried a fantastic tail setting took their attention as being
“something special” and true it was. She was typical to the end;
being a champion herself in the show ring she also produced
three Royal Welsh winners.
As a two-year-old Shani was covered with Bengad Snapdragon, and
a little dun filly was born, she in turn was covered with Nebo
Brenin and produced Nebo Bouncer.
Shani matured in to a lovely mare with plenty of depth and welsh
character, we decided to cover her with Nebo Brenin, and her
progeny are mentioned below:
Nebo Dainty: Sold at Llanarth sale
Nebo Cracker: 1st and young stock champion Royal Welsh as a
yearling
Tyngwndwn Siani Felen: In 1976 Owen and I had a chance to choose
a filly foal each and I chose this chestnut filly to refound the
Tyngwndwn Stud, and this was the beginning of the C’s at
Tyngwndwn. Shani Felen won the Royal Welsh as a yearling, and
was sold to Scotland as a two year old, now that we had sold
Shani Felen I was without a pony again and being only nine years
old it was decided that a mountain pony would be more
pleasurable for me, so therefore Nebo Shani moved on to form the
Tyngwndwn stud. Not only did she breed me some champion ponies
but also taught me to show as her temperament was unique.
Tyngwndwn Corker: sold as a Yearling
Tyngwndwn Moonlight: the only daughter we have left out of Shani,
she has won the Royal Welsh on three occasions, and she has also
bred three Royal Welsh winners, (Look further down the page for
more details)
Tyngwndwn Smasher: Sold as a foal
Tyngwndwn Tiger: sold as a yearling to Cheryl Mace, 1st Lampeter
stallion show, International Champion
Tyngwndwn Master; 1st Lampeter Stallion show, N.P.S.
Aberystwyth, he was then sold to Yorkshire
Tyngwndwn Crackerette; Sold as a mare after being successfully
shown with us.
Tyngwndwn Crackerjack and Tyngwndwn Dancer; Both unfortunately
died as yearlings.
When Shani stopped breeding to Nebo Brenin we decided to turn
her out with the Welsh mountain pony stallion Arvon Pip. She
produced her last foal,
Tyngwndwn Copper Coin, who is the sire of our black Welsh
mountain pony stallion Tyngwndwn Terence (please read Section A
page for more details).
Not often do you find a mare of this calibre that could equally
breed prize-winning Welsh Mountain Ponies and Welsh Ponies of
cob Type.

Moonlight

Sire; Nebo Brenin – Dam; Nebo Shani
1980 - 2004
Three times Royal Welsh winner
Twice female and reserve overall section C champion
Moonlight was born on a glorious moonlit evening; her life was
triumphed with glory from that moment on. Her first appearance
in the show ring was Lampeter stallion show where she headed a
strong class of yearlings, her showing career went from strength
to strength, she loved every show and never let us down, her
champions are far too many to mention but she clinched nearly
every major show throughout England and Wales. Unfortunately she
was never crowned the overall champion at the Royal Welsh but
gained a red rosette on three occasions and was credited two
gold medals for the female champion and two reserve overall
champions.
Moonlight had fifteen foals and produced some lovely stock all
by her half brother Nebo Bouncer, just to mention a few they
include four Royal Welsh winners Tyngwndwn Bridesmaid and
Brenhines who both won as foals, Tyngwndwn Daylight who won as a
four year old and as a nine year old when she went one step
further than her mother and went overall section C champion
bringing the Lady Chetwynd cup home to Tyngwndwn for the first
time ever, and Moonlight’s last off spring Tyngwndwn Moonlady
possibly the most like Moonlight won in 2005 as a three year old
an achievement her mother did 22 years previous and in 2006 she
won the barren mare class and went on as her full sister
daylight did in 2003 to be female champion and overall section C
champion. Tyngwndwn Mischief who has been second on three
occasions at the Royal Welsh, Tyngwndwn Bouncing Boy qualified
for the ridden championship at Olympia.
Moonlight was a pleasure in every way, the foundation of the
section C’s at Tyngwndwn and is sadly missed by us all.

Nebo Brenin and Nebo Bouncer have made a distinctive

Brenin winning the driving class at the Royal Welsh |
Following is a tribute which I wrote for Brenin, there is no
doubt that Brenin will always be my favourite stallion, we
basically grew up together, he had such a fantastic temperament
that any child would be safe in his company.
A
tribute to a very special stallion
It
was a very sad day at Nebo on the 3rd February 1998, Brenin died
quietly in his stable after a healthy twenty-seven years of
life. He was buried near his dam, close to the stable yard.
Brenin no doubt was one of the most successful Welsh Cobs that
has been bred, not only in the show ring, but also as a sire of
substantial stock to the end. His last son at Nebo is Nebo Sion
born in 1998.
His showing career has been nothing but success having won at
most county shows, including the supreme champion at The
Lampeter Stallion Show in 1984, his action, quality and
temperament excelled him in the driving world, winning the Royal
Welsh Show in 1986.
Brenin has been a prolific stock getter for us, and also for
many other studs, our Welsh Pony and Cob Sirerating scheme
proves this, he topped the Section D`s on eight occasions and
the Section C`s nine times, he has also sired two sirerating
winners Nebo Daniel and Nebo Bouncer.
May we as a family thank Brenin, not only for the success he
brought upon Nebo and Tyngwndwn, but also for being a true and
gentle friend.
"We all miss you"
Nebo Bouncer
Born 1981
Sire; Nebo Brenin – Dam; Nebo Siani Lwyd

Bouncer
has a huge impact on the section C’s at Tyngwndwn, he sired all
the foals that Moonlight had, four of which won at the Royal
Welsh including the two champions Tyngwndwn Daylight and
Tyngwndwn Moonlady. Moonlight and Bouncer travelled to many a
shows together as there’s only a year’s different in their age,
only once did Moonlight manage to beat Bouncer for a
championship, over the years I had the privilege to show Bouncer
at quite a few shows for various reasons, possibly the most
memorable was the 1988 Royal Welsh when Bouncer and Daniel had a
championship each in their respective sections, Owen showed
Daniel for the Lloyd’s Bank in hand championship and I showed
Bouncer and he took the championship and had his ticket to
represent the breed at the Horse of the Year Show in London, I
also won the championship for the best handler and Owen was
reserve with Daniel, and in 1992 I showed Bouncer again at the
Royal Welsh and he took the section C champion and I again won
the best handler with him. Bouncer has won the Royal Welsh on
seven occasions and has been overall champion four times.
Although he is owned by my brother Owen and bred by my parents
he is very close to my heart, and we are grateful to Bouncer for
producing such lovely stock for us at Tyngwndwn.
